The first traces of prehistoric men in Armorica, or Brittany, date back half a million years. Significant alignments of menhirs began to appear much later, in the Neolithic period. Carnac's alignments most probably date back to 2800 years BC. To modern-day man, the site represents an unsolved mystery. |
