The Mystery…
The Carnac alignments represent an unsolved mystery because scientists still haven't been able to determine the reasons leading to the erection of these stones, some of which are more than six meters high. The name "Carnac" could come from the Breton word Karn (cluster of stones). In the beginning, the alignments probably stretched over eight kilometers. Many menhirs were possibly hauled off and used as construction material by the later generations. The central area is composed of three parts.
